How Generation X Entrepreneurs Choose to Consume Content

Generation X entrepreneurs are unique in how they consume content. They often seek out valuable and actionable information to help them grow their businesses. They’re not as interested in reading long-form articles or watching lengthy videos, instead preferring more concise content. That’s why Generation X entrepreneurs are more likely to use social media platforms like Twitter and LinkedIn than other generations. These platforms allow them to quickly find the information they need and get back to running their businesses. So if you’re here in our community, looking to reach Generation X entrepreneurs, make sure your content is short, sharp, and to the point.

1 – WHY?

Gen X entrepreneurs consume content differently than other generations.  Why do you think that is?  In my opinion, it’s because we are DRIVEN.  We have a deeply embedded instinct to strive for success, knowledge, wealth, and, therefore, information.  We were raised with the ever-increasing speed of the Internet, and because of that, at least partially, we want to find what we are looking for fast and with the least amount of fluff possible. (this tends to carry over even to our personal lives)

2 – WHAT WE LIKE…

It’s no secret that Gen X’ers are known for being a practical, resourceful bunch. We’re the generation that brought you the DIY movement and an entrepreneurial spirit. So it should come as no surprise that we are more likely to consume content that is both practical and useful. Whether we’re searching for tips on starting our own business or ways to save money, we want information that we can use in our everyday lives. That’s why Gen X bloggers and influencers are some of the most popular voices online – we’re relatable, down-to-earth, and always ready to get our hands dirty. If you’re looking for fresh perspectives and real-world advice, we are your go-to crew!

3 – ENTERTAIN US!

If you’re a Generation X entrepreneur, there’s a good chance you don’t relate to content that is dry and unengaging. You probably won’t consume it at all. That’s because, as entrepreneurs, we’re constantly looking for content that is entertaining and engaging. We want to learn, but we also want to be entertained. So whether it’s blog posts, articles, podcasts, or videos, we demand content that is worth our time. And if it’s not? We’ll move on to something else. Luckily, there are plenty of great resources out there that deliver what we’re looking for. (I’ll share some of my favorites in a future edition – feel free to drop your favorites in the comments!)
